We are seeking a General Foreman to lead heavy-civil construction projects and crews in the San Francisco Bay Area for a small general contractor based in Redwood City, CA. The ideal candidate will possess a strong field background in underground construction, excellent leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of safety regulations and construction processes. As a general foreman, you will coordinate construction crews, manage subcontractors, review technical drawings, and ensure adherence to project schedules and safety protocols.
 
This position will be based in the field at various construction projects in the SF Bay Area. The hiring company is a Redwood City based general contractor specializing in underground construction, utilities, grading and drainage, and park and playground construction.

Duties

  • Lead daily on-site operations, supervising construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and construction plans.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and labor.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections.
  • Manage project documentation including contracts, change orders, daily reports, RFIs, and safety records.
  • Supervise crew members.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Review & interpret construction drawings regularly.
  • Coordinate with project manager.

Skills

  • Proven track record in managing large commercial or infrastructure construction projects with strong crew supervision skills.
  • Deep understanding of construction regulations including OSHA standards and federal safety requirements.
  • Skilled in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings accurately for effective project execution.
  • Strong project scheduling abilities
  • Excellent management capabilities in supervising teams on-site while maintaining high safety standards.
  • Effective communication skills for managing client expectations, coordinating with subcontractors, and leading project meetings.
  • Knowledge of budgeting processes along with experience in cost control measures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety management practices; ability to enforce safety protocols rigorously.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications accurately; proficient in quality control procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • ESPs - Erosion & Sediment Control Plans

Our QSP is able to inspect and monitor your jobsite as needed, including SMARTS reporting for the State of California.
